Retrofitting PV storage with AC core

Your photovoltaic system is running reliably, but a large portion of the solar power is generated while you are away? With an AC battery for retrofitting, this surplus can be shifted in time: from a sunny afternoon to the evening. The SunEnergyXT 500 PRO AC Core complements your existing system on the AC side. Replacing functional solar panels or the existing PV inverter is not required for this principle.

Use more of your solar power at home

The most important starting point is not the age of your system, but your daily routine: How much electricity goes into the grid during the day, and how much do you buy back later? A battery can close part of this temporal gap. The existing PV system continues to generate power; AC Core charges from the household grid and releases energy when needed.

The goal is higher self-consumption, not the promise of storing every single kilowatt-hour. If the battery is full, there is a lack of available charging capacity, or demand exceeds available output, grid feed-in and grid supply remain possible. Crucial is a design that matches your consumption.

How to turn your existing system into a system with a battery

  1. Check existing system: Record PV inverter, electricity consumption, surpluses, meter, and existing installation.
  2. Plan AC connection: The specialist company adds the battery to the appropriate circuit and checks the connection, protection, and required registration.
  3. Record consumption: A compatible measuring device, such as Shelly 3EM / Pro 3EM, EcoTracker, or bitShake, provides the basis for automatic control.
  4. Set up daily routine: Set up the app and appropriate operating strategy, determine the state of charge and reserve, and check behavior during sun and consumption.

Easy retrofitting means here: continuing to use the functioning PV side and specifically adding the battery. It does not mean performing work on the electrical installation yourself.

Which entry is right for you?

You want to cover part of your evening consumption

Start with your measured surpluses and consumption after sunset. AC Core with 5 kWh is the smaller entry point. The actually usable energy and the possible output are different metrics: A larger battery does not replace power planning.

You need more energy over several hours

The 10 kWh set consisting of a main battery and B500 expands the capacity. B500 modules are stacked using the intended plug connections. Further capacity can be added later as long as the setup, device compatibility, and system limits are maintained.

Heat pump or electric car increase your demand

Then two questions count: How much energy do you need, and what power is drawn at the same time? Additional main units open up further power levels in approved configurations. An electric car continues to charge via a suitable charging facility; a heat pump remains part of the professionally planned house installation. Understanding capacity, parallel operation, and large consumers.

The right guide for your situation

Prepare your retrofit with WonderVolt

For an initial assessment, it helps us to know the manufacturer and model name of your PV inverter, the PV output, a typical daily curve of supply and feed-in, as well as existing measuring devices. Also, mention planned consumers such as a heat pump or wallbox. Photos of type plates accessible from the outside are sufficient; do not open any electrical housings for this.
